I think Darrence should be the one holding the camera as my other group mates and I talk, while Darrence does a bigger part in the oral presentation to make up for it.
Learning Issues
We have learnt that if we are focused on what we do, we can achieve it if we put in our hearts.

WEEK 7 REFLECTION BY SHAWN CHOO
The survey questions have been posted on our blog. The teacher should have received our mail for her to review it and comment on it. Our survey has 5 yes/no questions, 3 mcq questions and 1 open-ended question, and the survey would be done using google document. We should be creating our video during the March holidays where most of us should be free
Ideas
We may be giving the link for our survey to our friends and family .
Learning Issues
Our group has learnt that passing out forms to people is an inefficient method of conducting surveys, as the time required is a lot , and passing out 50 forms may take up to till 4 hours . Hence , we choose to use google document
Action Plan
We should be using google for the survey .
Week 7 Reflection - Chong Jie
Week 7 reflection-Darrence Ng
We have done the survey and are happy with it and have posted it on our blog. We will be doing the short video during the school holiday. The survey consist of three multiple choice questions, five "yes or no" questions and two open-ended questions. This survey will be done via google survey website
Ideas
We wanted to asked ours friends and relatives but decided that it was easier o do it via Google.

We have decided to create our video during the March holidays, when we have more time, compared to now.
Ideas
We were thinking of asking our relatives to do the survey, but decided that using google documents was a better idea.
Learning Issues
Our group has learnt that passing out forms to people is an inefficient method of conducting surveys, as the number of people who respond to the survey is very little, and passing out 50 forms may take uo till 4 hours, which we do not have. Hence, we have decided to do the survey on google documents.
Action Plan
The survey we created will be put up in google documents.

Ideas
I think that this project is going to be difficult, as this project consists of many difficulties, each section marked. But, i think that our group can successfully complete the project in time. I also think that the project theme we have chosen is one where people can learn form, as many people do not have the time to read up on Singapore history, and with our project, we are hoping to help them remember about Singapore's past.
Learning Issues
Through this project, not only can we educate people on the importance of history of our homeland, we can also learn many things along the way.

Our group has discussed and have worked out all our roles, and what we are supposed to do. Darrence and I will do the video taking, while Shawn will post the Project Planner A and B which we did last week together. Kelvin would do more research on the topic given to him last week. As for the kimono, Shawn and I would try to rent it, but if we cannot find a kimono, we would probably just take a picture of it.
Ideas
I will find out about why does Japanese wear kimonos while Darrence might cook some of the japanese sticky rice to present to the judges, and maybe even let them try some. Kevin would also do a video about how the Japanese celebrate new year. Darryl will make a video about the differences between modern japanese marriage and traditional japanese marriage .
Learning Issues
I have learnt that the project planner is a good way tell us what to do, and also reminds us of our duties and responsibilities.
Action Plan
For what I am researching about,Japanese and kimonos , I have researched more about kimonos and will hand all I have researched to our group leader when we get together.
Week 6 reflection-Darrence Ng
We are deciding on the questions fro the survey and are printing out 20-30 copies of the survey. We are going to let Shawn Choo to get a file for us and do some or maybe all of the printing of the worksheets while the rest of the team will print out and post their own reflections on the blogs
Idea
We will let our family members do the survey and get their idea or opinion about the survey and the questions.

I would also do a video about how the Japanese celebrate new year.
Learning Issue
We have learned that planning out our project is more efficient and wastes less time.

Kelvin would also do a video about how the Japanese celebrate new year.
Learning Issues
Our whole group has learnt that the project planner is a good way to keep us on track of time, and also reminds us of our duties and responsibilities.
Action Plan
For the video I am might be making, about the difference between modern japanese marriage and traditional japanese marriage, I have researched more about Japanese marriages, and will hand all i have researched to our group leader when we get together.
Thursday, February 11, 2010
Week 5 reflection-Darrence Ng
We have Idled out what each of the group member has to do,what the resources are and who is to do the video taking,Darrence(ME) and Darryl. Shawn will post the Planing A and B which we did as a group. The Kimono will be rented by Shawn and Darryl but the rental fees will be equally divided amongst ourselves.
Ideas
For the rice eaten by Singaporeans and Japanese,I might cook some of it and bring it to the presentation for the judges to taste the difference. If we cannot rent a kimono, then we just take a picture of it. Darryl might also take a short video of how the modern marriage and traditional marriage of Japanese are difference. While Kelvin will take a short video of Japanese new year celebration

I learnt that a planner is very important so that we will not go astray or end up not knowing what to do next.
Action
We have decided to start on the project right after Chinese New Year
Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Week 4 Reflection-Darryl
We have created our 4 guiding questions, which have been posted by our group leader. Also, each of us in our group has been an area to study and research on. Having very little time due to other activities, our group has adopted this technique to improve our the rate of which we will finish the project. Instead of meeting once a week for several hours and completing it together, we do our part at home, then meet up for half an hour each week to combine what we have found out.
Ideas
In our report, we might be inculding the differences between how Japanese and Singaporeans celebrate New Year, and the differences in how they hold weddings.
Learning Issues
Our group has learnt an effective and valuable method of dividing work equally amongst our group members, instead of the usual method people use, which wastes a lot of time.
Action Plan
I have researched the area i was given by our group leader, and our group will combine all we have done.
Monday, February 8, 2010

Thursday, February 4, 2010
Week 4 reflection-Darrence Ng
We have our guiding questions and can now have an idea on what to work on for them and have posted the guiding questions and are already working on them and the movie has to be shorter than we have expected
Ideas
We will be doing the differences of marriage between older generations and younger generations of japan and Singapore. Why do Japanese wear kimonos whereas Singaporeans do not etc.
Learning issue
I have learnt that we have to use the guiding questions to do the project and that we do not have to get together to do the project, instead we could split the job amongst ourselves
Action
We will stay back for half an hour on certain days of the week to discuss on the project, the parts we have to do and how to put the project together
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Week 3 Reflection - Chong Jie
We have decided to use iMovie on our Macbooks to make a video. In it, we will talk about somethings involved with our project.

We decided to either use pictures or real products to show for our presentation. We will also research on the cultures of both Singapore and Japan to compare our cultures' differences and similarities.
Learning Issues
We have learnt that we have to submit a new post on our blog every week, in which deadline is 9pm before the day our ipw lesson is in.

WEEK 3 REFLECTION BY SHAWN CHOO
Thursday, January 28, 2010
week 3 reflection by Darrence Ng
We have came out with the guiding questions and we have decided to do a movie using imove to help us explain the reasons of why Japanese wear a kimono, wear clog and have rice that is sticky unlike Singapore's rice and some of Singapore's olden culture that bare in contrast with Japanese cultures
Ideas
We would use the guiding questions to help us with the presentation and we might have to shorten the presentation that I have picture. During the presentation,we would introduce what our project is about and the roles of the members in my group and what briefly on what we have done for the project. Then show the video to explain the reasons of the cultures of Japan and Singapore. Finally,we will start showing the comparisons between Singapore's culture and Japan's culture
Learning issues
I learnt that if a member does not do his reflection, the whole group we not be cost of their points for lack of team work which is totally reasonable.I have also learnt that the presentation should last only 15 minutes
Action
We will try to remind each other to do our own reflections and start doing the project more frequently and think of ways to get the objects for the movie ex.clog, kimono
Monday, January 25, 2010
Week 3 Reflection- Darryl
Our group has discussed and decided that we would use imovie to do our project, and the video will be used in the 15 minute oral presentation, which will be about 5 minutes long. We also have came up with guiding questions, that we will use to enhance our project.
Ideas
We have a rough idea of how our oral presentation is going to be. First, we will give a slight introduction of ourselves. Then, we will show the video, which contains the culture of both Japan and Singapore, the reasons for such things, and many more. After that, we will start to compare between Japan's and Singapore's culture.
Learning Issues
Our whole group has found out that if one of our group members does not do their weekly reflection, the whole group will be affected points wise, and the person who was so irresponsible will face the consequences.
Action Plan
After one of our members did not do his reflection, we decided to remind each other to do the reflection if we did not see it. We also exchanged phone numbers, so we all could be easily contacted.
Sunday, January 24, 2010
Week 2 Reflection - Chong Jie
We have decided to do out project on Japan rather than Singapore. The reason why is because Japan has more culture, more history that we found more interesting to work on.
Idea
Our group can do research on Japanese Culture. Their art, their music, Japanese literature, and so on. We may also consider putting in comparison. We will consider using Singapore or China.
Learning Issues
We learned that working together is the key to success. Everybody has to chip in, in order to complete the assignment.
Action Plan
Our group will start working on every Tuesday (The designated IPW project day) Further plans have not yet been decided.
Thursday, January 21, 2010
Week 2 Reflection- Darryl
Our group have discussed and have come to a conclusion that doing Singapore's history would only guarantee us lower marks compared to doing another country, since we are learning Singapore's history in our History lessons, so we have decided to choose a different country in Asia, namely Japan.
Idea
For ideas, we think that we will be doing the culture of Japan, and Japan's history, and many others, all related to Japan. In addition to learning more about Japan, we are also considering to have a comparison between Japan and another country, to make our report more interesting, although we have yet to agree on a country.
Learning Issues
our group has learnt in the last week that not only teamwork is essential for us to succeed, and that everyone has his own responsibility, and must carry them out without failure, if not, we would fail as a team. Also, we have learnt to be more creative, and not just stick to our homeland, Singapore, to do research on, and take the easy way out.
Action Plan
We have decided that on Tuesdays, our group will come together after school, to set some time aside to do our project, like the collaboration of data and the editing of our group report. Even though it is not possible to meet every Tuesday, i hope my group members can make it for the majority of the times.
Week 2 reflection by Darrence Ng(11)
We have decided on which country to work on,Japan,as it has extraordinary cultures which we found rather interesting and felt confounded to work and ascertain its culture. Though we have no Internet connection/access, we will still make sure that we get the job done
Idea
We will work on modern and traditional cultures such as the samurais, the cos play, why are their rice sticky, etc and might consider putting in comparison. We will consider using Singapore or China
Learning issues
We learned that teamwork is of the essences we had a hard time on decided which country to choose,Japan or China. We chose Japan in the end because it like I have mentioned was interesting.
Action plan
The team will start work and research next Tuesday and plan to do our beat. We will divide the work such that everyone gets the same amount of work hence no one is left out.
Thursday, January 14, 2010
Week 1 Reflection-Darryl
The facts i know so far are that our group is going to do the theme Asian values and cultures-Past, Present, Future. We have chosen our country, Singapore, to do research on. Our final product will be a report about the past and present of Singapore, and what it might be like in the future. We are also thinking about making a model of a kampong as our final product.
Ideas
I think that this project is going to be tough, as this project consists of many components, each section marked. But, i believe that with my team, our group can successfully complete the project in time. I also think that the project theme we have chosen is one where people can learn form, as many people do not have the time to read up on Singapore history, and with our project, we are hoping to help them remember about Singapore's past.
Learning Issues
I want to find out more about Singapore's history, the time before Sir Stanford Raffles came to Singapore, when there were only fishermen and some other people. I want to know who were they, how they got there, and what was their lifestyle like. Additionally, i want to find out who the actual founder of Singapore is-Stanford Raffles or William Farquhar.
Action Plan
I can do research about this topic to find out more about Singapore. By doing this, i can also find out if we will be able to go far with this theme. If not, i can tell my group members and discuss a new theme to do, instead of the history of Singapore, and prevent us from finding out that we are not able to proceed with this theme later on.
Group Name, Group member roles, theme for project
The roles of our group members are
1. Shawn Choo(9)-Supplier
2. Kelvin Chua Chong Jie(10)-Typist
3. Darrence Ng Heng Swee(11)-Group Leader
4. Darryl Chua Yong Liang(12)-Encourager
Also, we will be doing the topic- Asian values and cultures-Past, Present, Future.
WEEK 1 REFLECTION - SHAWN ( 9 )
Week 1 reflection by Darrence Ng
We have decided to do a write up about the history of Singapore, its past and present. I am glad to have such industrious and imaginative group members. We have done all the necessary thinking and preparations, such as the ideas, the materials needed, our roles in the group, etc
Idea
We have cogitated on what to write for our project and final came out with an idea. We would do the Kampong lifestyle of Singaporeans, where and what they lived in,whether living back then was more dangerous then living now,in the present. What the civil servants wore or what were their roles back then.We will also build a model of Singapore's Kampong
Learning issues
We want to find out what their houses were built with, what was inside, what their toilets were like, etc. We are going to find out what occupations were available in the past and how much money they earned in a day. We want to know whether their lives were at risk each time they stepped out of their house
Action plan
We would all do the research needed for the success of our project, whatever materials needed will be acquired by Shawn Choo, the rest of us would be liberal with ideas and put our best efforts into the project.
